Wrote, along with partner Howard Lindsay, “Life with Father” and “Sound of Music” for Broadway. He won a Tony for “Sound of Music” in 1960. Born in Findlay. He is the father of actress Lindsay Crouse and grandfather of actress Zosia Mamet.

Hiram Crouse was the father of Russel Crouse. He was a newspaper editor and publisher who worked in Findlay then moved to Toledo and founded what became The Toledo News-Bee, which was absorbed by the Toledo Blade in the 1930s. Hiram is buried in Findlay.
