
Member of Andrews’ Raiders who infiltrated several hundred miles behind Confederate lines and stole a train engine named “The General” and raced 7 hours back toward Chattanooga. 20 miles shy of freedom they had to abandon the engine and flee for their lives. Most were captured within days. The raid is also known as Mitchell’s Raid for the Union general who approved the operation. Member of the 21st Ohio OVI. Wilson was one of the engineers of the stolen train. Awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor Buried in Dowling, Ohio in Wood County.
