Bud Fowler

Bud Fowler

Born John W. Jackson Jr. in Fort Plain, N.Y. Due to racism, Fowler played for at least a dozen leagues and claimed to have played in 22 states and in Canada. Played for the Findlay Sluggers in 1893 with Grant “Homerun” Johnson. In 1894, Fowler and Johnson left Findlay to start the Page Fence Giants, in Adrian, Michigan. The Giants would go on to become one of the all-time great Black barnstorming teams. Fowler was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2022.
